Chief Michael James Hays (Retired)

August 15, 1943 - February 19, 2008

Michael became the Brazos Canyon Volunteer Fire Department Chief in 2003. Michael stood committed to providing the residents of the Brazos Canyon with a well-equipped fire station dedicated to the safety and care of those in this rural community.

Building the original station, acquiring trucks and equipment, and establishing an EMS program was a monumental task Michael began over 10 years ago with a small group of volunteers.

Michael lost his life in the line of duty when the fire house blew up on February 19, 2008. Continuing and advancing the mission that Michael began will require the commitment of many contributors and volunteers. We know Michael's SPIRIT TO SERVE will inspire others to volunteer in any way.

We will miss Michael and thank him for providing a foundation for us to continue to build a great fire defense service.
