About Us

BCVFD HAS MANY EMERGENCY
RESCUE CAPABILITIES

In addition to firefighting, the department has equipment and trained personnel for other rescue situations.

 EMERGENCY MEDICAL CAPABILITIES:

EMS

We also have EMS first responders in our fire department and receive state funding for this work.  Most homes in our district can have an EMS person respond to it, arriving in 3 to 4 minutes and BCVFD has, done so many times.  This last year, we had 25 EMS calls in our fire district.  To have an ambulance arrive in our area requires 30 to 45 minutes, so you can see how important it is to have medical responders so close.  We carry an AED Automatic External Defibulator and have one available at the fire station.

 ROPE/MEDICAL RESCUE CAPABILITIES:

We have considerable rope rescue and medical equipment.  We have had basic rescue training.  We plan to host an advanced rope rescue class in the summer. We have been called on in the past to do medical rescue.  We have the equipment to transport an injured person long distances to an ambulance or medical helicopter.  We have a landing zone in the Brazos Lodge area and have had a helicopter land at this site.

VEHICLE EXTRICATION CAPABILITIES:  We have hydraulic “Jaw of Life” equipment as well as an array of hand tools and trained personnel.
